GEORGIA ASYLUM AND IMMIGRATION NETWORK HONORS ATLANTA PRO BONO AND LEGAL LEADERS AT GO FORMAL FOR FREEDOM

[Atlanta, GA, March 4, 2020] On Friday, March 20, 2020, Georgia Asylum and Immigration Network (GAIN) will celebrate 15 years of GAIN at the Go Formal For Freedom gala at the Loews Atlanta Hotel in midtown. The Master of Ceremonies for the evening will be CNN Correspondent Nick Valencia.

At Go Formal For Freedom, GAIN will recognize community leaders with four awards, honoring significant contributions to Georgia’s legal community and support of immigrant victims of crime and persecution:

  • EVERSHEDS SUTHERLAND (US) LLP, LAW FIRM OF THE YEAR: Eversheds Sutherland has been a dedicated partner to GAIN since our founding in 2005. The firm was one of the 5 Atlanta law firms that founded GAIN as the Atlanta Bar Asylum Project. Now they work alongside us to propel us into the future. Eversheds is a leader in pro bono work, and in 2019, they worked directly with the staff of GAIN to help develop and pilot a new pro bono asylum clinic program for affirmative asylum-seekers in need.
  • DAVID DANTZLER of TROUTMAN SANDERS LLP, PARTNER OF THE YEAR: David is a Partner at Troutman Sanders, and his leadership is a continual encouragement to attorneys at the firm, teaching them to value pro bono service. David has been a great friend to GAIN, from his involvement with GAIN cases to the efforts he recently led to argue for a GAIN asylum-seeker’s rights in front of the U.S. 11th Circuit Court of Appeals.
  • STEPHEN DEW of KILPATRICK TOWNSEND & STOCKTON LLP, VOLUNTEER ATTORNEY OF THE YEAR: Stephen is an Associate at Kilpatrick Townsend. In addition to simultaneously representing two asylum clients for GAIN, Stephen demonstrated compassion and dedication when his client’s car broke down in middle Georgia as she was driving to an ICE check-in. Stephen dropped what he was doing and drove several hours to pick her up so that she could avoid the consequences of failing to appear.
  • GAIN will also be honoring a Client Inspiration Award winner at the event.

This year’s gala will feature a cocktail reception, silent auction, seated dinner, live auction, and awards ceremony. Go Formal For Freedom, and GAIN’s work on behalf of immigrant victims of crime and persecution, are made possible by the generosity of our donors and sponsors. In particular, GAIN would like to thank this year’s Champion Sponsors, Eversheds Sutherland (US) LLP and Troutman Sanders LLP, for their partnership and support.
